Material Story: The Journey of Premium Straw Felt

Quality begins long before the craftsman’s hands touch the material. For Mr.Bubble, it begins in the wheat fields where our straw is harvested, continues through the felting mills where it is transformed, and culminates in our atelier where it becomes headwear. Every step of this journey matters.

From Harvest to Felt

Our straw is selected from premium wheat varieties prized for their long, fine fibers. After harvest, the straw is cleaned, sorted, and bundled before being sent to specialized felting mills. Here, through a combination of heat, moisture, and pressure, the individual fibers are mat together into a uniform, resilient felt—the foundation of every cowboy hat we make.

The resulting felt is remarkably versatile: supple enough to shape by hand, yet durable enough to withstand years of daily wear. It breathes in summer, insulates in winter, and develops a rich patina that deepens with age.

The Leather Band

No Mr.Bubble hat is complete without its leather band. We use only vegetable-tanned leather—a slower, more traditional process that produces leather of exceptional quality and character. Over time, this leather darkens and softens, becoming a personal record of the hat’s journey alongside its wearer.

Together, straw felt and vegetable-tanned leather form a partnership of materials, each enhancing the other’s strengths. This is the essence of our craft: not the pursuit of novelty, but the perfection of essentials.
